Online Social Media Applications for Teaching and Learning

One of positives impact of globalization era is that the technology of communication and information becomes very sophisticated. Internet is the example. Internet nowadays facilitates people with the ease of searching information and doing communication. In education field, the presence of Internet really helps both, the teacher and the students. For example, in the previous discussion we talked about the blended learning where the teacher combines the traditional classes with internet-based learning. Through blended learning, the students not only can get many more sources and knowledge about the lesson, but also they receive guidance from the teacher about the lesson.

          There are some online social media applications that

Most of the students nowadays to be certain have experienced some of the online social media above. Google is may be the most used social media by the students to search the additional material for their lesson. Some of the students maybe also have used Edmodo in their learning process in the class to communicate with their teacher. See! There are so many tools to improve the teaching and learning process, so why don’t we use them wisely and improve our knowledge and skill to be a smarter and more skillful person in the future?

            Today’s learning and teaching process is become very innovative in the term of method and also the medium. Schools are not only held by attending the class and sitting while listening to the teacher till the time for the students to go home. The variation and development in the teaching method definitely is to make the students get better understanding in learning the subject and also make the learning process become interesting. In line with the technological progress, there is one learning method that is very beneficial for the students called Blended Learning.

          Blended learning is a term increasingly used to describe the way e-learning is being combined with traditional classroom methods and independent study to create a new, hybrid teaching methodology. The Blended Learning has some models that can be used in teaching the students:

•          Face to face driver

Face to face teachers deliver most of the curriculum. The teacher also guides the students in e-learning in lab or in the class to supplement.

•          Rotation

The students have their schedule in online-learning by themselves and attending classroom for face to face learning with their teacher.

•          Flex

Most of the curriculum is online learning, but the teacher is provided a small group in the class for tutoring the students so they will not misunderstand the difficult material that they read by themselves.

•          Online Lab

The teacher brings the students to the computer lab to learn from the internet.

•          Self-Blended

The students themselves take the remote online-learning to supplement their traditional classroom learning.

•          Online Driver

An online platform and teacher deliver all the curriculum. Students work remotely and, and face to face check-ins are either available and mandatory.

Blended learning is a complete package for the students, because it combined two thing which is online learning and traditional classroom learning. By the online learning, the students can learn by themselves about the subject with unlimited sources. But then, the student will also get the feedback from the teacher about the subject they learn by themselves so that they will not misunderstand the lesson/subject, even, they will have better understanding about it.

A Horse's Secret

Long time ago, when there was no cars or motorbikes, people went from one to another place by riding horse. That’s why horses became so popular in that era. There was an annual event for peoples in a kingdom named Dreamery Kingdom. The event was horse racing. The winner of this competition could ask everything from the king as the gift.

            The winner for this year was an old lady. It made everyone in that kingdom surprised. They had the same question in their head ‘How come an old lady like that lady won this competition?’. Finally this was the time for the old lady to say her wish to the king.

            “I wanted the prince of this kingdom took care of my horse till I came back from my journey to a mysterious island.” said the old lady. Everyone was shocked, because it meant that the prince had to be a groom. Had no choice, the prince half-heartedly lived in the old lady’s house to take care of the horse. A strange thing happened. At night, the prince always heard a very beautiful voice sang a song from the horse stable. One night, he decided to see in the horse stable to know who the singer was. He was very surprised when he found a very beautiful lady there and did not find the horse.

           

“Who are you? Where is the horse?” asked the prince. “I am the horse.” Answered the beautiful lady. Then, the lady told the prince that she was a song fairy in a kingdom in the sky. Because of doing mistake, she was punished to be a horse. If she wanted to back with her real body and be song fairy again, she had to find a very handsome man and asked him to sing with her under a full moon. The old lady who won the competition was a white witch offered a help for her to find a handsome man. Then, the song fairy asked the prince to sing with her, but the prince agreed singing with her if she granted one wish from him. They agreed. From that night, every night, they would sing together in the horse stable before the time for them to sing under the full moon. Unexpectedly, they fell in love each other.

It was full moon. It was the time for them to sing under the dark sky, but they seemed like they did not want to do this. They did not want to be apart, but if they did not sing together this night, the fairy would be a horse for the rest of her life. Therefore, they sang a very sad song together. At the end of the song, suddenly the body of the song fairy shined and she got her wings again. It would make her easy to come back to the sky.

            Knowing that it was the time for both of them to say goodbye, the tears was flowing down her face. She wanted to stay with the prince, but she could not. Suddenly, the prince remembered about the wish.

            “Fairy, you promised me to grant my wish. Can you do it now?” Said the prince. “Yes, I can. My magic has been back. What is your wish, my prince?” said the song fairy. “I want you to be a human and stay with me here.” Said the prince. The song fairy was surprised hearing the prince’s wish, but then she smiled because it was the things she wanted, too. “Repeat your words and add the word ‘please’ at the end of your sentence,” said the song fairy.

           

“I want the song fairy to be a human and stay here with me, please,” repeated the prince. For twice, lights appeared from the song fairy’s body and her wings were disappeared. She became a human. Then, the prince brought her back to his kingdom and married her. They lived happily, and every night, they always sang a song together under the night sky to remind how was the first time they met and how they fell in love each other.

The Princess and The Soldier

He was doubtful and once again looked at the princess, but the princess gave him nothing clues. Finally he opened the left door and shocked, because there was a fair lady behind the door. All the people knew that the soldier must marry the lady and went away from Arandelle. Most of them said that the soldier was very lucky to marry the fair lady, because she was very beautiful, more beautiful than the princess. Nevertheless, the soldier was sad. He looked at the princess and saw tears at her face. He cried at his heart. He didn’t want to marry the lady, but he could do nothing.

At the wedding day, the princess did not come to the reception. She just stayed at her room, cried and cried over again. When the bells rang, the sign that the soldier and his wife must went away from Arandelle, the princess looked through her room window. She prayed in her heart for their happiness while it was tears in her cheeks. At night, she could not sleep because she really missed the soldier. Then, she decided to have a walk around the castle. When she was walking at the garden, she heard sound of two persons which have a conversation. They are the king and the ministry. At first, she was not interested in their conversation, but when she heard they were talking about the soldier, she quickly hid behind a tree to hear their conversation. She was shocked hearing that the fair lady was a witch who disguised. The minister told the witch to kill the soldier when they had been away from Arandelle as soon as possible.

Hearing the conversation, the princess met her best friend, Frodo. She told him everything she heard. Fortunately, Frodo who was the ministry’s step son knew his entire step father’s plan. He knew where the soldier and the fair lady went to. They went to Frozen forest, which was very far from here. The princess did not care about the distance. All she knew was saving the soldier from the witch, so she went to the Frozen forest by riding horse alone. The princess did not find any obstacle along her journey, but when she arrived in a river near the forest, suddenly a very big and long snake tried to attack her. Unexpectedly, light lighted from her necklace and made the snake be a statue. She held her necklace and remembered that it was a supernatural necklace from her late mother. When her mother gave the necklace, she said to her that it would protect her from any cruel magic that wanted to danger her.

She continued her journey and not any longer, she found a small house. She saw the fair lady in a small kitchen preparing food. She was shocked when saw the fair lady which was the witch pour water from a small bottle and said something strange and suddenly black smoke appeared from the food. She was sure that the witch wanted to kill the soldier with the food. Before the princess found a way to baffle the plan of the witch, the soldier arrived at home and ready to eat. The princess entered the house and threw her necklace to the witch. The witch cried and all at once becoming dust. When the princess looked at the soldier, she was stunned by seeing the soldier dead. She was late. The soldier had eaten the food. Inconsiderately, she ate the poison food and dead. Perhaps, the princess thought that she would live happily with the soldier in the hereafter I hope so.

The Complicated Process of Writing

One of skills that must be learned if we want to master English is writing. Writing maybe easy to do for some people but most of us usually has difficulties to write. Actually, writing is a very interesting but it becomes frustrating if in the middle of our work we get confused to continue our sentences. There are some steps that will help us to write text easier, they are: brainstorming, drafting, finalizing, and proofreading.

The first step is brainstorming. I usually do brainstorming by mind-mapping the topic. If we have known what the topic is, then we have to think about words that related to the topic. For instance, if the topic is about our hometown, so the mind-mapping will be the traditional food, the famous places, etc. the main-mapping will be our orientation to do drafting. The second step is drafting. Here, we have to explain the mind-mapping in sentences. I think this the most difficult step in writing because we have to explain in detail. Something that often happens to us is that we do not know how we have to write our ideas on our mind. Usually, this step need much more time to complete than the others. If we have completed doing the drafting, we must re-read our work to look if there are any mistakes or something strange in our writing, so we can fix it. That’s called finalizing. Then, if we have been sure that our writing is good, do proofreading. Ask our friend to read our writing and find any mistakes from their point of view. After we know our mistakes, presently fix our writing. Try to do all those steps, and our writing will be a very nice writing text.
